BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis. It does not measure body composition and can read high for muscular bodies or low for people carrying weight around the waist. Our clinicians review labs, symptoms, and history before recommending treatment.
Standard BMI ranges
| BMI | Category |
|---|---|
| Below 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5 – 24.9 | Healthy weight |
| 25.0 – 29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0 – 34.9 | Obesity, class I |
| 35.0 – 39.9 | Obesity, class II |
| 40.0 and above | Obesity, class III |
These are the categories used in adult clinical screening. They apply to adults and are not intended for pregnancy, children, or athletes with high muscle mass.
What BMI does and doesn't tell you
BMI compares weight to height. It's a fast screening number, which is why insurers and prescribing guidelines still reference it — but it says nothing about how much of that weight is muscle, where fat is stored, or what your metabolism is doing.
For women in perimenopause and menopause, that gap matters. Shifting estrogen can change where weight settles and how insulin behaves, so two people with the same BMI can need very different care. That's why our clinicians pair the number with labs, symptoms, and your history before recommending anything.
Where to go from here
Your BMI is a starting point, not a plan. An initial visit is $200, then $150 per month for ongoing care with an MD, a registered dietitian, and a nurse on your team.
